Matt Hartley, Director of Engagement at Money Advice Trust, the charity that runs National Debtline, says:
“Inflation continues to run well above target, and this further rise in food prices in particular is putting a lot of pressure on household budgets. Persistently high prices for utilities, food, transport and more leave many households struggling to cover essentials, pushing even more people into problem debt over time.
“As the high cost of living continues, low income households need more support from policy makers. Introducing an energy social tariff, in particular, would go a long way in reducing bills for the poorest households.
“We urge anyone worried about their finances to seek free, independent advice as early as possible. National Debtline is here to help – our expert advisers can talk through your options and help you take back control of your finances.”
