New AdviserHub launched to help advisers support self-employed people in debt

Free advice sector resource developed by Business Debtline now available

Posted August 17, 2023

Business Debtline, run by the charity the Money Advice Trust, has today launched a new AdviserHub to help debt advisers support small business owners in financial difficulty and to help signpost them to Business Debtline.

Business Debtline’s AdviserHub, which is free to all advisers in England and Wales, is designed to help when providing debt advice to people who are self-employed and dealing with problem debt.

The resource draws upon extensive user research and the expertise of Business Debtline, which has been advising self-employed people for over 20 years and is the UK’s Centre of Excellence for Business Debt.

The free resource covers common challenges advisers face when helping self-employed clients, including with HMRC queries, separating out business and personal costs, and completing a budget for someone who is self-employed

The AdviserHub also explains what Business Debtline is, when Business Debtline can help and how clients can contact Business Debtline when needed.

Any debt advisers wanting to access the AdviserHub can do so by completing a short registration process at www.businessdebtline.org/adviserhub.

Dave Cheadle, chief operating officer at the Money Advice Trust, the charity that runs Business Debtline, said:

“It is so important that anyone in financial difficulty knows that help is available, and it is crucial that debt advisers are supported in helping all clients, including people who are self-employed. As the UK’s Centre of Excellence for Business Debt, we are pleased to launch our AdviserHub and further share our expertise in this area.

“The last few years have been incredibly challenging for many small businesses.  With cost of living challenges continuing, the debt advice sector, along with other organisations, will play a key role in supporting many businesses through these challenging times.  Our new AdviserHub will be a useful resource in helping advisers and to get people through to the specialist help they may need.”

The AdviserHub can be accessed by money advisers from the footer of the Business Debtline website and via www.businessdebtline.org/adviserhub.

Business Debtline offers free advice by phone and online – for more information visit www.businessdebtline.org.

Business Debtline’s AdviserHub was supported by funding from the Money and Pensions Service.  A Scotland specific AdviserHub, funded by the Scottish Government, is available to advisers in Scotland.
